Bill Singer, of Trenton, New Jersey, was recognized as the leading announcer of New Jersey auto racing from the mid-1960s through 2000.
He was chief announcer at Flemington Speedway for 34 consecutive years, until its final race during Labor Day Weekend 2000. Singer was also chief announcer at Trenton Speedway, Dover, Del. and Langhorne, Pa., for Indianapolis Car, NASCAR Cup level and Modified events.
Along with being at Flemington, he was on the microphone for weekly short
track races held at N.J.’s East Windsor, New Egypt and Old Bridge Stadium. Of interest, before his announcing career, Singer was a race driver in stock cars and Midgets during the 1950s. Singer was also the host of auto racing radio shows in the Trenton area from the 1950s
into the 70s.
He passed away from a heart attack in 2004 while hosting a Flemington Speedway Reunion that took place across the street from the shuttered track. |
