Sam Posey
 
Sam Posey was born on May 5 1944 in New York. He has lived most of his life near Lime Rock Park where he remains a legend.  Starting in Formula Vee, Sam became one of America's best road racers with impressive results in the Can-Am and the Trans-Am Series driving for Roger Penske and Carrol Shelby.
He was a winner in the 24 Hours of Daytona and the 12 Hours of Serbring. He finished among the top fie at Lemans a total of five times. In his first Indianapolis 500 in 1972 Posey took a solid fifth place finish and earned Rokkie of the Year honors. Later that year he drove in Formula 1.
While schooled in art, his accomplished writing has earned him an Emmy, while his voice has kept him in the public eye since retiring from driving. After a long stint with ABC as a race analyst , he has also been a part of both Fox and NBC Formula 1 coverage.
In 2013, the front straight at Lime Rock Park was renamed the Sam Posey Straight.
